Committed to establish Uttarakhand as a sports hub: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the State government is committed to promote sports throughout Uttarakhand.  He was addressing the closing ceremony of the Mukhyamantri Championship Trophy 2025-26, held in Dehradun, on Wednesday.

He said that the State government is dedicated to establish Uttarakhand as a hub for the sports. The successful hosting of the 38th National Games is a testament to this commitment, as it has elevated Uttarakhand’s prestige nationwide. “Our talented athletes won 103 medals in these games, achieving seventh place at the national level for the first time. Uttarakhand is emerging as one of the leading States in the country, thanks to its modern and world-class sports infrastructure. Our stadiums, training centres and facilities are now capable of hosting not only national but also international competitions. The government is implementing a Sports Legacy Plan, which includes the establishment of 23 sports academies in eight major cities across the State,’’ he said.

Additionally, the CM announced that the State’s new Sports Policy includes various provisions aimed at supporting athletes. The government is committed to taking care of both athletes and their coaches, with increased honorariums and incentives to help nurture new talent.

 In the programme, the CM presented the winning trophy and a check for Rs five lakh to the Dehradun district. A total of Rs 11 crore in prize money for this event is being transferred to the players’ accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). 

Sports minister Rekha Arya stated that the sports competitions commenced at the Nyaya Panchayat level on November 23, 2025 and concluded with the Mukhyamantri Championship Trophy on Wednesday. Every athlete and public representative participated, with more than 162,000 athletes involved in a total of 26 sports events.
