Concerned SCPCR seeks report on Champawat & Vikasnagar rape cases

The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has taken cognisance of an alleged gang rape of a minor girl in Champawat, as well as another alleged rape case reported from Vikasnagar. Notably, a minor girl was allegedly raped by three men in Champawat. The incident occurred when she attended a friend’s Mehndi ceremony. According to the police, the Class X student traveled to Salli village on Tuesday, which is about 20 km from the district headquarters. As she was about to return home, three men allegedly lured her into a secluded area. They threatened her with a sharp weapon, forced her into a room and took turns raping her. In this case, the victim’s father made serious allegations against the BJP Mandal vice president.
Taking note of the reported incidents, the chairperson of SCPCR Geeta Khanna stated that she has immediately asked for a detailed report from the officials concerned.
The commission has directed the district administration and police department to ensure a fair, prompt and sensitive investigation of the case. They have been instructed to make appropriate arrangements for the safety, counselling, medical assistance and rehabilitation of the survivor, she informed.
Khanna further said that the commission has acknowledged another alleged rape case which is supposed to have occurred in Vikasnagar. As regards this case, the commission has written to the director general of police (DGP), urging him to take prompt action.
She demanded prompt and strict legal action against the perpetrators of the crimes. “We have urged police to register both these cases under the POCSO Act.
She added that the commission is continuously monitoring both these cases.
