Demanding the extension of the upcoming winter session of Uttarakhand assembly the state unit of Congress party organised a protest at Gandhi Park here on Saturday.
The Congress leaders held that the three day session was very short and should be of at least eight days so that important issues could be taken up for discussion. The former national secretary of the party Prakash Joshi said that conducting just three day session is a crude joke on the people of the state. He said that it is unfortunate that the number of sittings of the assembly have progressively declined in the BJP government.
The member of All India Congress Committee (AICC), Garima Dassauni launched a scathing attack on the BJP government and said that the state government was shying away from facing the opposition in the state assembly. She said that as per the rules, the assembly should have 60 or more sittings in a year. Dassauni informed that in the year 2017, only 17 sittings were held while in the year 2018 and 2019, 18 and 22 sittings were there respectively. She said that in the year 2020, the assembly has only six sittings which is very unfortunate. The Congress leader said that only five questions can be raised in a day under rule 58 and in a three day session only 15 questions can be taken up. “In such a situation how the problems and issues of 70 assembly constituencies can be raised in the assembly,’’ she asked.
The three day winter session of Uttarakhand assembly is commencing from Monday, December 21.
