Uttarakhand Congress has said that the statement of former chief minister and BJP MP from Haridwar, Trivendra Singh Rawat in Lok Sabha on illegal mining in the State has endorsed the view of the party on rampant illegal mining in the State. Interacting with the media-persons at the headquarter of the State Congress on Friday, the party’s State vice president Suryakant Dhasmana said that the State government should come out with a white paper on the mining activities in the State. Congratulating Rawat for responding to the voice of his soul in the Lok Sabha, Dhasmana said that from the last eight years, the Congress party was consistently raising the issue of illegal mining in the State and its harmful impact on economy, ecology and society. He said that it is interesting to note that the statement of former CM Rawat given in the parliament was denied by Mining secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant who termed the allegations as baseless. Dhasmana said that the BJP national president JP Nadda and State president Mahendra Bhatt should take cognisance of the issue. He said that the State government should come clear on the allegations of illegal mining levelled by BJP MP Rawat.

Dhasmana added that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in its report of 2023-24 had mentioned that the vehicles with registration numbers of e-rickshaws, ambulances and two wheelers were used in transport of mining material. He demanded that the State government should come out with a white paper on the mining sector in the State since year 2017.  Dhasmana said that the safety audit of the bridges in the State has mentioned that the illegal mining is threatening many bridges in the State.
