Cong seeks probe after 260 cement bags recovered in Joshiyara

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Uttarkashi

The discovery of approximately 260 bags of cement on the roadside near the Joshiyara main bridge has sparked controversy with the Uttarkashi district Congress president Pradeep Singh Rawat having demanded a high-level and impartial investigation. Meanwhile, taking the matter seriously, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has also initiated an investigation.

Rawat stated that about 260 bags of cement had been found near the Joshyiara main bridge on September 9. “The bags were marked and prima facie, the material appears to be meant for use in BRO construction work. The locals say that the bags were unloaded at the site via a BRO vehicle, which requires an impartial and thorough investigation,” he added.

He demanded the district magistrate to secure CCTV footage and conduct an investigation. “The vehicle’s logbook, register, GPS records, driver’s statement and cement stock must be examined. If personal use or misuse of government material is proved, strict action should be taken against those involved,” he said.

Meanwhile, BRO commander Raj Kishore stated that the matter has been taken seriously. “Police are examining CCTV footage. We are now waiting for the probe report.  If the investigation proves involvement of any individual strict action will be taken as per the law,” he added.
