The opposition Congress tried to corner the State government on less number of sittings of Vidhan Sabha on the second day of the monsoon session here in the State’s summer capital on Thursday.Raising the issue as a question of order after the end of question hour on Thursday the Manglaur MLA Qazi Nizamuddin said that rules and business procedures manual of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha clearly mentions that at least 60 sittings of the Vidhan Sabha should be held in a year in its three sessions (budget, monsoon and winter). He informed that in the year 2022, the Vidhan Sabha functioned for only eight days. Similarly in the year 2023, only 10 sittings were held and in the year 2024, the Vidhan Sabha has functioned for only four days so far. He said a report released by PRI mentioned that Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha has a dubious distinction of presenting and passing the annual budget in only one day. The leader of opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya said that the Vidhan Sabha has not been convened on Mondays for the past many years due to which the questions related to the departments headed by chief minister are never taken up for discussion. He accused the State government of running away from its responsibility. In his response the Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal said that the house functions on business and added that the government wants that the Vidhan Sabha should function for more days. The speaker Ritu Bhushan Khanduri said that the business is determined by the government and the business advisory committee.
