Congress hoping for booster dose in Uttarakhand from Karnataka polls

A victory in the southern State of Karnataka would provide a much needed boost to the sagging morale of the workers of Congress in Uttarakhand. All eyes are now focussed on May 13 when the verdict of the people of Karnataka would come out of the EVMs. With the majority of the exit polls giving the Congress party an edge over ruling BJP, the Congress party and leaders are excited. They are confident that the people of Karnataka would keep their record of reversing power in every five years intact. The exodus witnessed in the saffron outfit just ahead of the polls has also generated hope in Congressmen that their party would recapture its old citadel of south.
Former chief minister and member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Harish Rawat summed up the excitement of the Congressmen by stating on the social media on Thursday that he is heading to Delhi on Friday to celebrate the victory in Karnataka with party leaders there. Rawat however added that this probably would be his last visit to Delhi aimed at a political objective. The former CM said that he wants to dedicate the remainder of his life to bring Congress back to power in Uttarakhand. He said that he wants to compensate for the loss in the assembly election of 2017 since he was at helm of things then. Rawat emphasised that he now does not have any aspiration for any post and would continue to provide power to the current leadership of State Congress.
A victory in Karnataka would surely make the Congress party’s central leadership confident and would strengthen its position in dealing with the regional satraps in forging an alliance against the BJP in the parliamentary elections of 2024. The Uttarakhand Congress too would be enthused by victory in the southern State. A string of defeats in Uttarakhand has demoralised the Congress party workers. The BJP is on a winning streak in the State ever since it bagged all the five parliamentary seats in 2014. It then came to power in the State in the assembly elections of 2017 and its candidates again secured landslide victories in the parliamentary elections of 2019. Negating the anti incumbency and the trend the BJP retained its power in the State in the assembly elections of 2022.
“ The Congress party needs a morale boosting victory in the Karnataka assembly elections which would boost the workers ahead of the local bodies elections slated this year and the crucial parliamentary elections next year,’’ said a party worker.
