The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said that the statement given by the Forest minister Subodh Uniyal during campaigning in Kotdwar reflects the real character of ruling BJP. She said that while addressing a public meeting in support of BJP’s mayoral candidate Shalendra Rawat, the minister stated that the Congress party could not find a male (Mard Ka Baccha) candidate in Kotdwar which is a general (non-reserved) seat and has fielded a woman. She said that the statement shows the mindset of the BJP and its leaders towards women. Dasauni said the fact that the Congress party has fielded a woman in the general seat reflects the respect the party has for women. The Congress party has made Ranjana Rawat its mayoral candidate in Kotdwar.
She claimed that the BJP treats women as second grade citizens. “The BJP always makes loud noises about women empowerment but when it comes to giving respect to women it turns its back. Uniyal should apologise for his comment,’’ she said.
