The Congress has decided to corner the State’s BJP government on the emotive issue of the summer capital Gairsain. In response to the decision to hold the upcoming budget session of the Vidhan Sabha in Dehradun instead of Gairsain, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has decided to hold a symbolic Assembly session in Gairsain on February 27. The PCC president Karan Mahara said that the statehood activists and general public wanted Gairsain to be declared the capital of the State. He said that respecting the sentiments of the statehood activists the Congress government led by Harish Rawat had set up infrastructure and other facilities in Gairsain and organised Vidhan Sabha sessions there. The assembly had also passed a resolution that every year at least the budget session of the Vidhan Sabha should be organised in Gairsain but the BJP government has almost finished this tradition and has tried to crush the soul of the statehood movement.
The spokesman of Uttarakhand Congress Sheeshpal Singh Bisht said that issues which are in the interest of the people of the State will be raised during the symbolic session in Gairsain. He said that public session will be held on the subjects of land laws, crime against women, injustice to Ankita Bhandari, increasing unemployment in the State, deteriorating law and order situation in the State, bad condition of the health services, recruitment scams, Agnipath scheme, Joshimath subsidence, Raini disaster and prevailing corruption in the government will be held during the session in Gairsain.
He said that the State government has kept the term of the budget session of the Assembly short due to which the members will get less time to raise questions on the issues of public concern.
