PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Over 500 weddings have already taken place in 2025 at the Triyuginarayan temple in Rudraprayag district, a sacred site believed to be the divine wedding venue of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The temple has rapidly emerged as a sought-after destination for couples from across the globe seeking to marry according to Sanatana Vedic traditions.

The officials informed that during the peak wedding season, the temple sees more than 100 marriages each month. The growing popularity of Triyuginarayan temple as a wedding destination reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated calls to promote Uttarakhand for destination weddings. This surge in weddings has boosted the local economy, creating steady work for hoteliers, priests, wedding planners, traditional musicians, and local cultural teams, as per the officials.

Wedding planner Ranjana Rawat shared that Indian-origin doctor Prachi, currently working in Singapore, will marry at the temple between May 7 and 9 and has already booked accommodation at the GMVN tourist rest house. By April this year, the temple had hosted nearly as many weddings as it did in all of 2024. Notable personalities including ISRO scientists, actresses, singers and social media personalities among others have also tied the knot at this sacred location.

According to temple priest Sachchidanand Panchpuri, prior registration is mandatory for conducting weddings at the temple. All ceremonies follow strict Vedic customs and are held in the presence of parents or guardians. The temple courtyard contains a specially constructed sacred fire altar where couples take their seven vows, followed by a symbolic circumambulation of the eternal flame. Other rituals are carried out at nearby hotels and resorts with standardised fees for local priests who conduct these ceremonies.

The Triyuginarayan temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and holds immense mythological significance. It is believed that Lord Vishnu played the role of Goddess Parvati’s brother during her wedding with Lord Shiva at this site. The temple houses an eternal flame said to be the same sacred fire around which the divine couple took their vows. Its architectural resemblance to Kedarnath adds to its spiritual allure. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also reiterated the State’s commitment to promoting destination weddings in Uttarakhand, highlighting the employment opportunities it creates and inviting people from around the world to celebrate their special moments.
