A court in Dehradun Dehradun has directed the police to investigate allegations of a bribery conspiracy linked to a case registered at Rishikesh police station. The court said the allegations need proper investigation to find out the source, payment and recovery of the money and whether any public servant was involved.
The order was passed on September 15 by the special judge, SC/ST Act and additional district judge V of Dehradun on an application filed by Dinesh Kothari under Section 175(3) of the BNSS. Kothari stated that he had registered FIR number 177/2026 on May 11 against the respondents after they entered his office with weapons, harassed him and his son and forcibly took his gold chain. He also said that a counter-FIR was registered against him on the same day.
The application also referred to FIR number 181/2026, in which Atul Gupta complained that some persons threatened to implicate him in serious cases and demanded Rs 20-25 lakh to influence police officials. Gupta allegedly paid Rs two lakh, while police later recovered around Rs 1.75 lakh, according to the court record.
The court directed police to include Kothari’s allegations in the investigation of case crime number 181/2026 instead of registering a separate case. The police have also been directed to submit a report.
