The Rishikesh police arrested five people on Thursday for allegedly cheating job seekers by promising them jobs at the under-construction All India Institutes of Medical Science (AIIMS) satellite centre at Kichha in Udham Singh Nagar district. Police said the accused had taken money from candidates and prepared fake appointment letters. Two suspected fake appointment letters and Rs two lakh in cash were recovered from the accused.
The arrested accused were identified as Subrat Bachhad, Dipanshu Mandal, Ganesh, Deepak Gusain and Deepna Mandal. Police registered a case under sections 318(4), 336(3), 338, 340(2) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against them.
The case came to light on September 15 when the intelligence team of the AIIMS Rishikesh security department carried out a covert operation on Barrage Road. The team found some people discussing a transaction of Rs 3.20 lakh for providing jobs at AIIMS Kichha. The AIIMS administration later filed a complaint at Rishikesh police station.
During the investigation, police questioned the accused and examined witness statements and appointment-related documents. Police said accused Gusain told investigators that he had collected money from several people for jobs and gave Rs 2.40 lakh to Shiva Singh. Bachhad said that he had paid money for jobs and introduced people to Singh and Vinayak, manager of Rajdeep Enterprise.
