EPFO slaps Rs 2 C as fine on errant employers

The Haldwani regional office of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has started tightening the noose on those employers in the Kumaon division who did not deposit their employees’ contributions on time.

The regional provident fund commissioner, Akash Verma stated that they have taken strict action against 33 registered business establishments for their negligence in contributing. “We have slapped a fine of Rs 2 crore and interest of Rs 1.32 crore on these establishments. This amount will be recovered soon,” he said.

Verma further stated that 201 other establishments that have delayed contributions are also under investigation.

He clarified that their objective is to motivate employers to make timely contributions so that employees receive PF benefits in a timely manner. “Even stricter actions will be taken against those establishments that fail to make timely contributions in future,” he added.
