Char Dham opened for district residents

The State government has extended the Covid-curfew till June 22 with more relaxations.

Informing about the decision, cabinet minister and State government spokesman Subodh Uniyal said that the residents of Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts will be allowed to visit Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines respectively while residents of Uttarkashi will be allowed to visit Gangotri and Yamunotri provided they have an RT-PCR negative report. Further, three-wheelers for public transport will be allowed to operate.

The limit for people attending marriage and funerals has been increased to 50 though those attending a marriage will need to have a Covid negative report. The markets will remain open from 8 AM to 5 PM on June 16, 18 and 21 while all vegetable and fruit shops along with dairies and sweet shops will remain open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. The other restrictions and relaxations will remain applicable as during the past phases of the Covid-curfew.

The minister further said that though the number of Covid-19 cases in the state has been dropping, caution is still needed. “We cannot simply open up everything at a go. This one week period is very crucial and we must still observe precautions. Hopefully if the situation continues to move towards normalisation,  the government will start working on the unlock process after this phase of the Covid-curfew,” he said.
