Fulfilling its pre poll promise the BJP government of Uttarakhand has increased the daily allowance of the sanitation workers in the state. An order regarding increasing the allowance from Rs 350 to Rs 500 per day was given by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday. The decision would help more than 6,000 sanitation workers in the state. The increase in daily allowance would cost the state exchequer a sum of Rs 4038.12 lakh per year. On January 5, 2022 a delegation of sanitation workers led by former chairman of Rajya Safai Karmchari Ayog met CM Dhami and informed him about the problems faced by the sanitation workers. In the meeting Dhami had assured them that the allowance would be increased.
It is pertinent to mention here that there are 6,501 sanitation workers in the state under the Urban Development department. At present there is a disparity in the allowance of the sanitation workers in the state as they receive Rs 275 to Rs 350 per day. Apart from increasing the allowance to Rs 500 per day the order would bring parity in the allowances of different types of sanitation workers in the state.
