Dalit youth torture case; Congress sets up committee

The Uttarakhand Congress has set up a committee in the case in which a Dalit youth in Mori of Uttarkashi was tortured and beaten mercilessly for entering a temple. On Wednesday the in charge of the Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav took cognizance of the issue and directed the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara to constitute a committee on the issue. Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh, former MLA Vijaypal Singh Sajwan, former MLA Jeet Ram, president of Scheduled caste (SC) cell of the Congress Darshan Lal, president district Congress committee Uttarkashi, Dinesh Chauhan and former Pramukh Dhanilal Shah are the members of the committee. Mahara has asked the committee members to visit the village Salara of Uttarkashi on November 19 and interact with the local people, social workers, party workers and officers of administration.  The PCC president has the committee to submit its report in three days.

It is pertinent to mention here that a Dalit youth in Salara village of Mori block of Uttarkashi was allegedly beaten by some villagers for entering a temple recently. He is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital. Former chief minister Harish Rawat had met the victim in the hospital on Tuesday.
