Transport minister Chandan Ram Dass on Saturday inaugurated a hi-tech checkpost of the Transport department near Kuthal Gate in view of Char Dham Yatra. He said that the department has made special arrangements for Char Dham Yatra this year considering the convenience of the passengers.  He said that so far, the department has constructed three hi-tech checkposts on the Char Dham Yatra routes which include Bhadrakali in Tehri, Tapovan in Rishikesh and Kuthal Gate in Dehradun. He said that the department is taking initiatives at every level to ensure pilgrims do not have to face any inconveniences. He said that the department has made it mandatory to install speed governors on vehicles to run on Char Dham Yatra routes as overspeeding is one of the main causes of road accidents.

Besides this, the department has also prepared the Driver’s Welfare Scheme to make necessary arrangements for drivers and conductors like food and rest on the routes to ensure they operate safely.  The government has kept a budget of Rs 50 lakh for the first phase of this scheme, said the minister. He said that the Installation of Automated Testing Stations (ATS) is also being done for real time monitoring of the vehicles.

The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have also been installed at 10 sensitive locations in the State to manage traffic-related issues efficiently in the respective areas, said Dass. The minister also distributed trip cards and interacted with some pilgrims too after the inauguration ceremony.
