Dealers express mixed response over early sales of ACs & coolers

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
With March nearly ending, many local residents have begun to buy air conditioners and coolers to prepare for the anticipated heat wave that is expected to witnessed this summer. Recent reports indicate that temperatures in Dehradun this March have crossed 30 degrees Celsius, a rise compared to the corresponding period last year. Further, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that this summer will likely bring twice as many heatwave days. In light of these predictions, electronics retailers in the city have expressed mixed reactions to the early surge in ACs and cooler sales.
An AC dealer Suraj Panwar said that March has seen a rise in air conditioner sales, unlike past years when sales typically ranged between two to three units. However, in consideration of last year’s heatwave that caused a shortage of air conditioners and coolers, this year’s increase is notable.
He said that so far, he has sold about 23 air conditioners in March. Panwar said that as time goes on, the demand for AI-oriented air conditioners, which have recently entered the market, is increasing, with prices starting at Rs 36,000 and higher.
Another electronics retailer expressed a mixed opinion on this matter. He stated that he cannot confirm a significant increase in air conditioner and cooler sales compared to last year. However, he did observe that a small number of customers have chosen to purchase air conditioners and coolers earlier to avoid potential shortages in the future.
In addition to this, several other electronic dealers have reported limited sales and are hopeful that sales will rise in April and May, as we n past years. Regarding this, an electronics appliances dealer said that he has been observing an increase in inquiries regarding ACs and other appliances. However, he cannot confirm that the anticipated heatwave this year has contributed so far to early sales. It is expected that, as in past years, sales of air conditioners and coolers will surge in April, May and June, he added.
