Dehradun police launch Operation Night Strike, over a dozen arrested

Dehradun Police carried out a major checking drive under Operation Night Strike during the weekend. Police teams led by superintendent of police Jaya Baluni conducted surprise raids at pubs, bars, hotels and restaurants across the district during the night. During the drive, more than a dozen persons involved in different illegal activities were arrested. Police also caught three vehicle thieves, including two members of an interstate gang and recovered three stolen two-wheelers. One juvenile involved in the case was taken into custody. In addition, nine absconding warrant holders were arrested from different areas.

Action was also taken against illegal activities in restaurants. Two hotel and restaurant operators in the Premnagar area were arrested for serving liquor without a license. Police also detained 44 people for drinking alcohol in public places and gave them strict warnings. Ten people were arrested for creating nuisance in public places.

The police conducted night checking and questioned more than 600 people. Many suspicious persons were verified and over 100 people were challaned under the Police Act. Police also took action against traffic violations. Nine drivers were arrested for drunk driving and their vehicles were seized. For breaking traffic rules, 90 drivers were fined under the Motor Vehicles Act and a total fine of Rs 52,500 was collected. Apart from this, 30 drivers were issued court challans and 32 vehicles were seized. Police said that such drives will continue in the future to control crime and maintain law and order in the district.
