Dengue survey volunteers’ honorarium to be cleared soon

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The June honorarium of volunteers who are engaged in dengue survey awareness activity in the Dehradun district will be released soon. This information was provided by the District Surveillance Officer (DSO) Dr Pradeep Rana.

It is important to note that these volunteers have been participating in the dengue survey awareness programme since May. Their responsibilities include raising awareness and inspecting for larvae at houses or other establishments in their designated wards. Currently, over 150 cases of dengue have been confirmed in the Dehradun district so far.

To help mitigate these cases, both Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and volunteers are actively participating in dengue awareness efforts. However, reports indicate that the volunteers have not yet received their honorarium for June in exchange for their contributions to the survey and awareness activities.

Talking to The Pioneer Rana stated that 100 volunteers in Dehradun and 40 in Rishikesh have been conducting dengue surveys and awareness activities since May. During these efforts, they visited their specific wards to inspect for larvae and promote awareness about dengue prevention. He said that each volunteer was compensated Rs 625 per day for their work; however, they have yet to receive their honorarium for June. The delay is attributed to a hold-up in the ground-level verification process. However, he assured that the process is currently underway, and the volunteers will soon receive their due honorarium for the month, he added.

It is noteworthy that to date, volunteers have conducted inspections of over five lakh households as part of the dengue survey and awareness initiative. In addition, they have also examined more than five lakh containers. Additionally, based on the data received by the Health department, ASHAs and volunteers have completed a cumulative of more than 11 lakh house surveys for dengue larvae.
