A team of the Vigilance department caught two people red-handed while taking a bribe on Wednesday in Dehradun. The case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The vigilance trap team arrested Dhanveer Singh Bisht, who was working as deputy education officer and in-charge block education officer in Doiwala, along with a resident of Dalanwala identified as Pushpanjali.
According to officials, the accused demanded Rs one lakh from the complainant. The money was being taken in exchange for clearing the reimbursement bill of students studying under the Ganga Valley Junior High School in Rishikesh. Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance team laid a trap and caught both accused while accepting the bribe.
The police have taken both accused into custody and further investigation is ongoing.
Notably, the Vigilance team had caught an Anganwadi supervisor on March 25 red-handed while taking a bribe in Roorkee of Haridwar district. The accused, Rakhi Saini, had been subsequently arrested for taking Rs 50,000 from an Anganwadi helper in exchange for helping her get a promotion.
