Despite DM’s order, several rural roads remain blocked

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Uttarkashi.

Despite the district magistrate, Prashant Arya  having directed executive engineers associated with Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to immediately restore the roads blocked by the continuing rain spell, things on the ground are far from what the administration intends. Several important motor roads crisscrossing the district remained blocked for the whole day.

The villagers alleged that they found it extremely difficult to meet the officers concerned and apprise them of the reality on the ground.

Notably, the DM while chairing the review meeting had stressed on unhindered rural road connectivity in view of the apple season. He had also directed the officers to ensure that road-clearing machines reach   the remote areas at the earliest in places like Mori, Bhitari and Doni.

Flagging concern over the non-implementation of the order issued by the DM and others, the villagers said that some officials working for PMGSY in the district have been staying put in the same posts for a long time and this is affecting their accountability and seriousness towards their work.

The people from villages like Barsali, Nakari, Singot, Kunshi and Khattukhal  demanded the administration to be more active in ensuring that rural life does not come to a standstill due to the roads remaining blocked by rain.
