NOC to meat shops: Hindu outfits give 3-day ultimatum to civic body

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Uttarkashi
The controversy over the no- objection certificate (NOC) issued by the municipal council to meat sellers in Uttarkashi has deepened with the Hindu organisations, including Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Devbhoomi Brahmin Mahasabha, having gheraoed the civic body office and staged a stir. The protesters demanded the immediate cancellation of the NOC, highlighting the fact that Uttarkashi is a religious town where the revered Vishwanath temple and Kandar Devta temple are located and the decision to allow meat shops to operate in such a holy place hurts the religious sentiments of the Hindu society.
These organisations also alleged that the process of issuing NOC is neither in accordance with the Municipality Act nor as per the instructions of the High Court. They further threatened a full-blown movement if the civic body did not withdraw the decision in three days.
