Paragliding centres will be opened district-wise and the training programme for this will be organised in September.  Further, a survey is underway at Kainchi Dham in Nainital district considering the rising number of people visiting this shrine. Stating this, Tourism secretary Dhiraaj Singh Garbyal said that the State government is making all possible efforts to further boost tourism. Various measures are also being taken to enable youth to gain self-employment in tourism and related activities, he said.

Garbyal said that the paragliding training will be provided by the Association of Paragliding Pilots and Trekkers, Switzerland. The plan for promoting paragliding has been prepared considering the scope for this activity in the State. The secretary said that 141 persons have been included in the first phase of the 20-day training programme. Generally, youths of Uttarakhand have to train for paragliding in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh but now the State government will provide this facility in Uttarakhand.

Referring to Kainchi Dham, he said that the survey being undertaken will cover the number of visitors along with the number of vehicles, the local guest houses and homestays. Various plans are being prepared for the expansion of tourist destinations with efforts also underway to execute these. A number of schemes will be executed on the ground after the end of the monsoon, Garbyal said.
