Dhami continues trend to woo Uttarakhandis in Delhi

Gajendra Singh Negi | Dehradun

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushar Singh Dhami justified his status as star campaigner of Bharatiya Janata Party in the high intensity election campaign for Delhi Assembly which ended on Monday. In the campaign trail, Dhami addressed as many as 24 public meetings and held roadshows in support of BJP candidates in different areas of Delhi which is the highest number by any of the chief ministers of the BJP ruled states of the country.

In an attempt to woo an estimated 40 lakh people of Uttarakhand origin, the BJP fielded Dhami as its star campaigner for the Delhi Assembly elections. The party tried to cash on his image which got a boost recently after Uttarakhand became the first State in the country to implement the uniform civil code (UCC) for its residents.

In the public meetings and road shows, Dhami adopted a two-pronged strategy to target the Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi and to woo the voters. The strategy involved listing benefits of a double engine government and targeting AAP for its corrupt government in Delhi. The Uttarakhand CM highlighted implementation of UCC, enactment of stringent anti-copying law, anti-riot act and law against religious conversions as achievements of his government in his campaign in Delhi.

Dhami claimed that Uttarakhand is moving on the path of development at a fast pace due to the support of Narendra Modi led government at centre.  In the public meetings he exhorted the people to vote for a double engine government in Delhi elections. Dhami consistently attacked the Arvind Kejriwal led AAP government for being involved in a series of scams ranging from excise, education, purchase of buses and installation of street lights.

He also targeted Kejriwal for failing to fulfil his promise of cleaning Yamuna in the last 11 years. Holding Kejriwal responsible for pollution in Yamuna, Dhami told people of Delhi that Yamuna is clean in its entire stretch in Uttarakhand but becomes so polluted in Delhi that its water is not even fit for irrigation purposes.
