Dhami Govt helpless, public insecure as murders jolt Uttarakhand: Congress

The Congress has lambasted the State government for the spate of daylight murders, gender crimes and rising crime rate in Dehradun and other parts of the State.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal said that the murders which were committed one by one in Vikasnagar, Rishikesh and Dehradun show the collapse of law and order in the provisional State capital. He alleged that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has no control over the State’s law and order situation as he is interested mainly in corruption. “The law and order situation has collapsed in Uttarakhand but the chief minister has no time from perpetuating his politics of hate. His shenanigans will not work any more. The police are saying that the man killed at Silver City Mall had 50 cases against him. The CM should explain how such people gain mining leases without verification,” Godiyal said.
The PCC chief further said that according to National Crime Record Bureau data, more than 1,200 children go missing in Uttarakhand every year. The situation of gender crimes in the State is also alarming and in such a situation one wonders whether there is any fear of the law left in the criminals, he said.
He further said that the transfer of Indian Police Service officers is a mere administrative formality which neither changes the system nor improves the political willpower. The criminals are bound to be confident when the focus of the government is on “distractive” issues like demography and religious conversion, Godiyal added.
