The State government has fulfilled its promises, particularly in maintaining the demographic and cultural identity of Uttarakhand. This was stated by the Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Suresh Joshi in a Press conference held on Friday to mark the three years of the State government. He highlighted the government’s achievements and policy implementations.
Joshi stated that the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a strict anti-conversion law, an anti-riot law and a land law were among the major steps taken during this period. These measures, according to the party, have led to the removal of encroachments from 1,44,500 acres of land and the closure of several unregistered madarsas. “The government also introduced a stringent land law, preventing non-residents from purchasing agricultural land in hill regions. This was aimed at addressing concerns about land ownership in rural areas. For women’s empowerment, the government has provided 30 per cent reservation in government jobs and 33 per cent in cooperative societies. Schemes such as Lakhpati Didi have been introduced to promote economic self-sufficiency among women,” he said.
He further claimed that the government has provided over 20,000 jobs and initiated recruitment for nearly 7,000 additional positions. He called the introduction of a strict anti-cheating law in recruitment exams as a measure to ensure transparency in the hiring process. The government has also focused on infrastructure and religious tourism, with projects such as the all-weather road, rail connectivity and ropeways to Kedarnath, Hemkund Sahib and other pilgrimage sites. He said that in healthcare, the Atal Ayushman Yojana has been extended, with Rs 600 crore allocated in the current year and Rs 1,580 crore in previous years.
The government has also provided three free LPG cylinder refills to 184,142 beneficiaries, Joshi claimed. He further stated that financial assistance for gallantry award-winning soldiers has been increased too. “Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra awardees will now receive Rs 50 lakh, Mahavir Chakra and Kirti Chakra awardees Rs 35 lakh, Vir Chakra and Shaurya Chakra awardees Rs 25 lakh and Sena Gallantry Medal awardees Rs 15 lakh,” he said. He added that the government aims to bring Uttarakhand closer to becoming a developed State in the next two years.
