Dhan Singh visits Silk Park Bhawan, interacts with weavers

The State Cooperative minister Dhan Singh Rawat inspected the headquarters of the Uttarakhand Cooperative Silk Federation Limited- known as Uttarakhand Silk Park Bhawan- in Premnagar on Friday and interacted with the weavers and artisans associated with the silk industry, learning about their problems, suggestions and experiences.
During the inspection, he also visited the Doon Silk retail outlet, silk weaving workshop and training centre. He directed the officials concerned to further strengthen the arrangements and provide better facilities to the weavers.
He also directed the federation to prepare outfits for the convocation ceremonies in the universities based of Uttarakhand and suggested further improvement in the quality and packaging of the products. “Every year, about 100,000 students from universities will need dresses for their convocation ceremonies,” he said, adding that
the State government is continuously working to promote the silk industry and protect the interests of its artisans.
He further said that the silk industry is becoming an important source of employment and self-employment at the local level, strengthening the rural economy.
He noted that modern training, marketing facilities and necessary resources would be provided to the weavers and artisans so that the silk products of Uttarakhand can get a new identity at the national level.
Among those present during the minister’s inspection were the general manager, Uttarakhand Silk Federation, Matbar Kandhari and the administrative officer Vinod Kumar.
