Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat has said that the District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) should focus on innovation to provide better training to the teachers. The minister gave the directive while chairing a review meeting with the officers of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and DIETs at the Samagra Shiksha Auditorium at the Directorate General of School Education on Saturday.
He said that modern techniques and innovations be adopted in place of traditional methods in training and workshops, so that teachers can play a vital role in the overall development of students by adopting innovations in educational work. He asked the principals of all DIETs to prepare a framework for innovative programmes.
Rawat also directed that special sessions on drug de-addiction, environment, social emotional learning and ethics should be organized in training workshops held at SCERTs and DIETs. He also said that teachers should be provided with mandatory mental health training, enabling them to easily recognize signs of stress in children and address mental health issues. The minister suggested that the recipients of Padmashree, writers, parents and head of village Panchayats should be invited in the training programmes.
In the meeting, Rawat directed the DIETs to expedite work on developing them into centers of academic excellence. He stated that various subjects have been assigned to different DIETs for classes I to XII centres of excellence.
He said that the construction work of the model DIETs approved for the financial years 2023-24 and 2025-26 should be completed on a priority basis. On a stern note, the minister instructed officials to ensure the timely and full utilization of the departmental budget, stating that no laxity will be tolerated in development work.
Director general of School Education Akanksha Konde, director SCERT Vandana Garbyal, director Secondary Education Vinod Kumar Simalti, director Primary Education KS Rawat and others attended the meeting.
