District hospital to erect boom barrier to ease gynaecology wing traffic

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
To enhance services for pregnant women patients, the administration of Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital has decided to establish a boom barrier at the entrance of the gynaecology wing (Mother and Child Unit). This measure is aimed at preventing traffic congestion caused by incorrectly parked vehicles, especially during emergencies.
Informing about this in detail, the principal medical superintendent at the hospital Dr Manu Jain said that the gynaecology wing, where deliveries take place, is located to the left of the hospital’s main gate, near the multi-level parking area. It has been observed that attendees and patients visiting the outpatient department (OPD) frequently park their vehicles improperly outside the gynaecology wing, leading to traffic congestion.
Jain shared an experience where a pregnant woman in labour faced delays in reaching the delivery room due to heavy traffic congestion outside the wing. Recognising the urgency to address this issue, the hospital administration has decided to implement the boom barrier. This barrier will allow designated parking personnel to open the barrier and manage vehicle placement properly, ensuring that pregnant women can arrive at the hospital without obstruction during emergencies, he said.
He added that the proposal for the boom barrier was recently submitted to district magistrate Savin Bansal, who approved a budget of Rs 150,000 on October 30. With the budget now in place, the installation of the boom barrier is expected to start soon. In the interim, the hospital administration has set up a rope at the said place to prevent improper parking. The hospital handles about 150 normal deliveries and 70 to 80 C-sections in a month, he said.
Jain also emphasised that the hospital plans to install dual air conditioning units in the delivery rooms to provide both hot and cold temperatures for the comfort of pregnant women.
