DM appeals for successful polio campaign

Friday, 16 February 2024 | PNS | UTTARKASHI

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the district magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht urged all the officers and employees of the district administration to ensure that the pulse polio campaign slated to be conducted in Uttarkashi district from March 3 to 5 is completely successful. Notably, the district administration has set a target of administering polio drops to 36,071 children above five years of age at 340 polio booths to be set up across the district on March 3.

“Being organised after two years under the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme, this is an important step towards eradication of this disease from the district as well as the country. Aside from those who would conduct the campaign at the 340 camps, four transit and mobile teams would be on the roads,” he said and added that polio vaccination teams would go door-to-door to administer the medicine to the left-out children on March 4 and 5.

He further said that the campaign would be a collective one involving health workers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, teachers, students and NGOs.  “We must give maximum publicity to the campaign and set up booths at convenient places for villages in the remote areas. We have asked the transport and police departments to cooperate. Besides, all sections of the society must come forward,” he added.

Though no new cases of polio have been reported from any part of the country since 2011 this campaign is being conducted in view of some cases being reported recently from Afghanistan.
