The district magistrate of Dehradun Sonika has asked complainants to present their issues in public hearings directly rather than through other people for more transparency and smooth disposal of complaints. She held a public hearing on Monday in which she received 119 complaints mainly regarding land related issues and encroachments besides complaints related to the departments of electricity, irrigation, public works department, MDDA, police and education among others. Many complainants send their representatives during the hearing who usually lack thorough knowledge about the respective cases which causes difficulty in addressing the issue. Considering the recent case in which two men attempted to get land documents by pretending to be income tax officials, the DM directed the officials concerned to report to senior officials concerned on receiving such requests and take appropriate action on finding any suspicious activity. She also directed the respective municipal bodies to scrutinize the records of properties before carrying out the mutation process and take action against suspicious applicants. She also directed the bodies concerned to take appropriate action against financial fraud. She said that officials from all departments must ensure that all complaints received in the hearing must be disposed of soon and the respective party must be updated about the same as well.
