The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal issued an order on Thursday to install CCTV cameras along the route from Paltan Bazaar to Dhamawala in view of public safety. These installations will be mounted on pre-existing street light poles and other departmental poles in the area. Under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, Bansal has authorised the use of existing infrastructure, including street light poles, to establish this network. The new surveillance system is expected to provide real-time insights and facilitate quick response to emergencies, contributing to an overall sense of security for residents and visitors in the busy market area. Bansal said that this initiative aims towards creating a safer, more secure environment for the public in one of the city’s busiest zones. The DM had also recently approved the installation of CCTV cameras at 15 selected locations within Paltan Bazaar to maintain a safer environment, especially during crowded events, to manage crowd control and to prevent incidents such as stampedes and other emergencies. He said that a total of 22 CCTV cameras, equipped with necessary supplementary devices, a public address system, and internet connectivity will be soon installed in the area.
