To mark the 150th birth anniversary of India’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a Run for Unity was organised in Rudrapur on Friday. The district magistrate Nitin Bhadauriya and the mayor Vikas Sharma jointly flagged off the commemorative event at Patel Park. Before the flagging- off, the dignitaries present paid floral tributes to the Iron Man of India at his statue. Besides, they spoke of his life and contribution to the building of the modern Indian State through integration of over 550 princely states.
A large number of school children and public representatives aside from the common people attended the event.
The mayor said that Sardar Patel’s contributions could hardly be expressed in words while the DM said that the objective of the run was to strengthen national unity and brotherhood among the country’s citizens.
