Some unidentified assailants launched a deadly attack on a notorious criminal Vinay Tyagi on Wednesday while he was being taken to the Laksar ACJM court for an appearance. This broad daylight firing while sending shockwaves through the area has brought into focus inadequate security for hardened criminals while being taken to court as well as the deteriorating law and order in the district known vulnerable for criminal activities.
Notably, the incident happened when Tyagi was being taken to the court under police custody. As the police vehicle approached the Laksar over-bridge, criminals on motorcycles- already lying in wait- suddenly opened fire, targeting the police vehicle. Tyagi was hit by several bullets, leaving him seriously injured. He was immediately rushed to the government hospital in Laksar where doctors declared his condition critical and referred him to a higher facility.
The firing caused chaos at the scene, leaving the people in a state of panic.
Upon being informed of the incident, the superintendent of police (Rural), Shekhar Chand Suyal arrived with a heavy police force and inspected the scene. He later stated that the injured criminal had been sent to a higher facility after being provided first aid. “An intensive combing operation is underway in the area to search for the attackers. Police have blocked off the surrounding areas and are examining CCTV footage to identify the attackers,” he added.
Importantly, several serious cases, including robbery and dacoity, have been registered against Tyagi and he was to appear in the ACJM court on Wednesday in connection with them.
