The Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan celebrated the Harela festival by planting saplings at the collectorate premises on Thursday. After offering prayers, he planted trees and gave the message of protecting the environment. He appealed to the people to plant more trees and take care of them.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Harela is not just a traditional festival but also a reminder of the close relationship between people and nature. He said Uttarakhand has a rich tradition of protecting the environment, and everyone should continue this tradition by planting and caring for trees.
The DM said that trees are important for clean air, water conservation, biodiversity and a healthy environment. He added that at a time when the effects of climate change and pollution are increasing, tree plantation should become a people’s movement rather than just a government programme.
Chauhan urged every citizen to plant at least one sapling and take responsibility for its care. He said planting trees is meaningful only when the saplings are protected and allowed to grow.
Doon police celebrate Harela with plantation drive
DEHRADUN: Doon police celebrated the Harela festival by organising a large-scale tree plantation drive across the district on Thursday. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP), Pramendra Dobal, along with senior police officers, planted saplings at the police lines campus and appealed to people to protect the environment.
During the programme, around 100 fruit-bearing and shade-giving trees were planted at police lines. The SSP said Harela is an important festival that reminds everyone to protect nature and increase green cover. He also extended Harela greetings to the people of the district.
