Dog feeding point left damaged for over a month, residents question follow-up

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

A dog feeding point set up by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) under its initiative to provide designated feeding spaces for stray dogs has remained damaged for more than a month on Ajabpur Road with residents alleging that no repair work has been carried out despite the structure lying in the same condition for weeks.

The damaged feeding point is beside an open drain with broken bricks and debris scattered around the site. The damaged condition is causing inconvenience to pedestrians and rendering the facility unusable.

The MCD had set up such feeding points to encourage designated feeding of stray dogs and promote cleaner public spaces. However, residents alleged that while new civic initiatives are launched with much attention, little effort is made to monitor or maintain them later.

Ajabpur resident Kuldeep Chauhan said that the feeding point has been lying damaged for over a month. “It has been more than a month since it broke but no one from the MCD has come to inspect or repair it. The corporation introduces new initiatives but many of these are forgotten after launch. There is no follow-up to check whether the facilities are functioning properly or have fallen into disrepair,” he said.

Responding to the issue, senior municipal veterinary officer Dr Varun Aggarwal said that a team will be sent to the site on Saturday morning to repair the damaged dog feeding point and restore the facility at the earliest.
