Keeping pet dogs in Ramnagar will no longer be as simple as before. Following the pattern of metropolitan cities, the Ramnagar Municipal Council has made the registration of pet dogs mandatory within the municipal limits. The move aims to improve urban sanitation, public safety and animal welfare, said the civic body officials.
Providing details, the municipal executive officer, Alok Kuniyal said that any resident keeping a dog within the Ramnagar Municipal area would now have to apply for registration with the municipal council. As part of the process, dog owners must submit the dog’s photograph, the owner’s photograph, vaccination records, anti-rabies certificate and other required documents to the municipality.
A Rs 500 annual registration fee has been fixed. After payment of the fee, the municipal council will issue a unique identification number and token for the dog to ensure proper identification.
The municipal council has also clarified that dogs must wear a muzzle when taken outside the house. Strict action may be taken against those found violating the rules, the officers warned.
Senior municipality officials said that this initiative would help in identifying stray and pet dogs, preventing diseases such as rabies and ensuring the safety of the people.
