After over 120 patients were hospitalised in Haridwar district on the weekend due to food poisoning caused by the consumption of food items prepared from buckwheat flour (Kuttu Atta), the Dehradun district administration came in to alert mode and started checking campaign on Monday during the ongoing festival of Navratri to check adulterated food items. The joint teams of Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) and district food safety officers conducted the inspections at various shops located in Hanuman Chowk, Darshani Gate, Doiwala and Rishikesh and have also collected nine samples of different food items which have been sent to lab for testing. According to the district food safety officer, PC Joshi, the teams also issued notices to those shopkeepers who were found to have stored substandard quality food items in their respective shops. The administration will take legal action against them besides cancelling their licenses if the said shopkeepers fail to make recommended improvements.

The senior food safety officer Manju Rawat, sub inspector of FDA Jagdish Raturi and food safety officers Ramesh Singh and Yogendra Pandey were also present during the checking campaign.
