With petty crime becoming more frequent in Dehradun, two separate purse-snatching and mobile phone snatching incidents were reported here on August 3 and 5. However, the police have solved both the cases of snatching. The cases were reported in Dalanwala and Doiwala.
In the Dalanwala case, on Thursday, police arrested Asif (28) and Shahid (21) for allegedly snatching a woman’s purse on Raipur Road on August 3. The accused confessed that they committed the crime to arrange money for drugs. Police recovered a stolen smart phone, Rs 500 in cash and the scooter used in the crime. In the second case, Doiwala police solved a mobile snatching case within six hours and arrested 21-year-old Andaz Nath from Bhaniyawala on Thursday. He had allegedly snatched a purse containing two mobile phones from a woman near the Lachhiwala railway underpass on August 5 while she was returning home with her daughter. Police recovered both stolen mobile phones and seized the motorcycle used in the crime. During questioning, the accused said that he had committed the offence to meet his drug addiction. Police said that swift investigation, CCTV camera footage and local intelligence helped crack both cases.
