Doon traffic police are working on 11 active black spots (accident- prone areas) in Dehradun, where a high number of accidents were reported last year. The district has identified 43 black spots over the past three years, but only 11 are currently considered active and are being monitored and addressed by the traffic police. As per data provided by police, the number of road accident deaths In Dehradun rose from 209 in 2024 to 229 in 2025, a rise of 9.57 percent. Police brass highlighted the increased fatalities as alarming.
The 11 active black spots include Raiwala, Rishikesh, Nehru Colony, Doiwala and Selaqui. Most of the identified spots are located along National Highway-7. The identified locations include Raiwala main market and Chhidarwala in Raiwala; Saat Mod on Dehradun Road and the area near the RTO office on Haridwar Road in Rishikesh; the Bypass Road in Nehru Colony; Kuanwala near the forest check post, Fatehpur Chowk and Laltappar on Haridwar Road and Toll Plaza in Doiwala; Selaqui; and Motichur flyover in Raiwala.
The Dehradun superintendent of police (Crime and Traffic) Jitender Choudhary said that the alerts will help drivers become aware of dangerous stretches while travelling.
“When a vehicle enters an accident- prone area, a warning sign will automatically appear on the screen. This will alert people that they are entering a black spot,” Choudhary said, adding that the move is aimed at reducing the number of accidents.

The move comes at a time when road accident deaths are increasing across the state. According to Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) data, Uttarakhand recorded 1,846 road accidents, 1,242 deaths and 2,056 injuries in 2025. In 2024, the state recorded 1,747 accidents, 1,090 deaths and 1,547 injuries.
“In Dehradun, the number of road accident deaths increased from 209 in 2024 to 229 in 2025, a rise of 9.57 percent. We are taking every possible initiative to bring down the accident fatalities,” Choudhary said.
“This aside, the traffic police have also been going all-out to improve traffic movement and reduce congestion in the city. The focus is on making roads safer and reducing accidents through better monitoring and the use of technology,” he added.
