Doon railway station to be redeveloped into world class facility
Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has asked officials of the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) to ensure quality and punctuality in the execution of the Dehradun railway station redevelopment project. The CM said this while reviewing the status of the project.
The RLDA vice chairman Ved Prakash Dudeja sought approval from the chief minister for an 83.5 metre tall building and the detailed project report.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Dehradun railway station is being redeveloped jointly by the RLDA and Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA). The project is aimed at upgrading the station with modern aspects including separate entrance and exit, underground parking, food outlets and other facilities. Travellers will also be able to enjoy a 360 degrees bird’s eye view of Dehradun in about an hour from a revolving restaurant planned atop a high rising tower. This will be the first revolving restaurant of its kind in the State. The proposed cost of the project includes Rs 125 crore for the station and Rs 400 crore for commercial development.
The CM advised the MDDA to present the proposal for the cabinet’s approval in the cabinet meeting slated to be held in the third week of January 2021.
Dudeja said that RLDA had requested approval for DPR soon so that RPF can be secured swiftly. The railway station will be redeveloped according to international standards and the result will provide a good experience to travellers. In addition to increasing real estate value, the project will also boost tourism capacity and local economy.
MDDA vice chairman Ranvir Singh Chauhan, Urban Development secretary Shailesh Bagauli and Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Kumar Srivastava were also present in the meeting.
