Doon sizzles at 42.8°C, no relief from heat wave conditions today

Heat wave conditions continued in Dehradun and elsewhere in the State on Sunday with no respite being forecast for the start of the week either. The maximum temperature rose nine degrees above normal to 42.8 degrees Celsius in Dehradun on Sunday with the weather expected to remain similar on Monday. The State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of heat wave conditions likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts today. The meteorological centre also issued an alert regarding the possibility of heat wave conditions likely to occur at few places in the remaining districts of the State. Apart from this, very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Dehradun (hills), Tehri, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State while surface winds are likely to be strong and gusty (30-40 kmph) in the plain areas of the State today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness mainly clear skies. Heat wave conditions are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 42 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Sunday were 42.8 degrees Celsius and 27.9 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 41.4 degrees Celsius and 25.2 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 31.8 degrees Celsius and 18.2 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar, 32.2 degrees Celsius and 21.6 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light rain was reported in Didihat with 14 millimetres of rain being recorded.
