Doon University holds its 4th convocation

‘Rocket Man’ motivates students to innovate and take risk for success

The fourth convocation of Doon University was held on Monday. The ceremony was presided over by the chancellor and governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh.  Noted space scientist and former chairperson of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) K Sivan known as the ‘Rocket Man’ delivered the convocation address. In all, 34 students who were toppers in their respective courses were awarded gold medals in the course of the convocation. The academic procession of the convocation was led by the registrar of the university MS Mandrawal.

After the chancellor declared the convocation open, the vice chancellor Surekha Dangwal conferred 423 graduate, 302 postgraduate and 17 doctoral degrees to students who had passed out in 2022. The chancellor also felicitated four alumni as “Distinguished Alumni of the University” in recognition of their contributions in their respective fields. These alumni are Dayakrishn Purohit for physics, Divyansha Rana for content analysis, Rahul Kotiyal for journalism and Rahul Tyagi for public administration.

Quoting the legendary Nelson Mandela, the chancellor said that education is the most powerful weapon one can use to change the world. He also stressed the university’s contribution through addition of new courses, centres and schools since its inception.

In his recorded message chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that in the coming one year, Doon University would host programmes pertaining to various G20 charters and goals.

In his convocation address, K Sivan hailed Doon University for emerging fast as a premier institution for higher learning in Uttarakhand.  He also appreciated the university’s endeavour in promoting quality research with several scholars gaining international recognition. He motivated the students to contribute to the development of the nation and gave them the mantra of achieving the goal of life through “conquering personal fear, taking calculated risks and innovating”.
