Welcoming the special Assembly session on women’s reservation, the Bharatiya Janata Party also termed the protest staged by the Congress a sham. The BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that the height of shamelessness is that those who vote in opposition in Delhi demand a proposal in support of it in the State.
Responding to questions raised by the media, Bhatt reiterated that the Congress and other opposition parties had sinned by opposing the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam during the special parliament session. The citizens, especially women, are unhappy with this and will teach them a lesson in a democratic manner, he said. “To honour public sentiments and expose those who insult women, a special session of the Vidhan Sabha has been called on April 28. The opinion of the people of Uttarakhand will be presented unanimously in front of the nation through this special session,” Bhatt said.
Referring to the Congress dharna in front of the Vidhan Sabha, he called it a political sham. “They want to send a proposal demanding 33 per cent reservation for women from the Vidhan Sabha here but their allies brought this law down in the parliament. If the Congress party wanted, it would have supported the amendment to ensure that women get their right in all Vidhan Sabhas and the parliament. This did not happen unfortunately and now the Congress is indulging in a political drama in Uttarakhand. The Congress leaders are under the misconception that the people do not understand the constitutional process whereas the people know that there is no point in the Vidhan Sabha proposal which the Congress is talking about. The fact is that the Congress is trying to dupe the general public but the people are witnessing its anti-women stance,” the BJP State president said.
