Drive to begin against garbage dumping in vacant plots
In view of various vacant plots getting converted into garbage dumping sites across the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will launch a drive to identify such plots to take action against the owners. In the last few years, several vacant plots in Dehradun have become garbage dumping sites. According to the chief municipal health officer, Dr Kailash Joshi, the corporation has served many notices and imposed penalties on the owners of such vacant plots this financial year despite the increased workload on MCD due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The corporation has cleaned many vacant plots which were being used as garbage dumping sites across the city while imposing the penalty of at least Rs 10,000 for each plot,” informed Dr Joshi. He said that the corporation also takes action against owners of such plots regularly on the basis of the complaints of the locals too. “Amids various plans to improve the sanitation level in the city, the corporation will soon start a drive against garbage dumping in vacant lands, possibly from March, to restrict illegal garbage dumping across the city.
The corporation will form teams to identify the owners of such plots to take appropriate action against them,” he said. He further added that the MCD asks owners to at least construct boundaries around their empty lands to make it less accessible to trespassers which will restrict the garbage dumping to a great extent. The chief municipal health officer also appealed to the locals to complain about such vacant plots which have become garbage dumping sites in order to ensure action against the owners besides ensuring the cleanliness of the area.
