Illegal roadside vendors have remained a cause of inconvenience at the Pant Park in Nainital city. The police and the municipality undertook a joint drive to remove these illegal vendors and kiosks but had limited effect.
The Nainital municipality executive officer Atul Bhandari headed the municipal team along with the police to undertake the joint drive against the illegal vends. The team started removing the illegal roadside vendors. However, the vendors soon started removing the seized items from the truck in front of the police personnel. The municipality and police personnel remained mute spectators as the vendors took back the items seized by the authorities. Bhandari said that till the vendor zone is established, only 121 vendors are allowed to ply their trade in the Pant Park during the permitted hours. The items will be seized if anyone apart from the permitted vendors sets up stalls in the area, he said.
