The Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) has appealed to the State government to ensure that commercial LPG cylinders are provided to the owners of restaurants and other food establishments which cannot operate effectively with alternative electronic cooking options such as induction. This appeal is in response to the concerns expressed by several restaurant and food establishment owners over gas cylinder crunch, with gas agencies refusing to supply them in view of directives from the authorities.

Sharing details, the DVMUVM president, Pankaj Masson said that his organisation had received several complaints about commercial cylinder shortages affecting their businesses. “Responding to the looming crisis, we have recently organised a meeting where around 50 to 60 owners of these establishments voiced their concerns.  Attendees included traders from Moti Bazaar and Macchi Bazaar, among other locations,” he said.

Masson acknowledged that this is a significant issue. However, in the same breath, he said that as responsible citizens, they must support the authorities during challenging times such as war. “The commercial cylinders typically last only two to three days for these establishments and this is adversely impacting their operations in the market area, Dehradun as well as the entire State,” he said.

“We asked them to consider using electric stoves and other alternative cooking methods, but not all of them can function with these alternatives. Therefore, we have appealed to the State government to ensure that these traders are provided with commercial cylinders across the State,” he added.

He further said that if this issue is not resolved in the next two to three days, they might meet with the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
