The Uttarkashi district magistrate Prashant Arya has directed the departments concerned to submit work proposals without delay as part of preparations for the Char Dham Yatra. With Gangotri and Yamunotri located in the district, the officials have been directed to ensure that works related to health, safety and sanitation works are completed in time for the Yatra.
Chairing a review meeting with departmental officials, Arya said that the Yatra is not merely a religious activity but also a test of the district’s economic, tourism and administrative capabilities. He directed the officials to submit work proposals without delay and to start work at the ground level. All works related to health facilities, beautification, drinking water, toilets, safety and traffic management should be completed within the set timeframe, he said.
The DM also stressed on special vigilance regarding the Yamunotri route. A proposal for installing solar geysers should be prepared soon to provide warm water for equines at the main horse stops on the route. Further, adequate number of sheds for pilgrims along with clean drinking water, sanitation and rest spots should also be focussed upon, he said. Reviewing the health services and safety arrangements, Arya directed officials to ensure adequate staff, necessary medicines and emergency services at the health centres. Ambulances services should remain active with extra vigilance at vulnerable spots, he said. Officials were also directed to prepare clear work plans for traffic management, parking arrangements and crowd control. The DM also warned that the responsibility of officials will be fixed if the works are not completed within the deadline. The aim of the administration is to ensure a safe, well managed and positive experience for visitors from across India and abroad, Arya added.
