It is learnt that the electricity might become expensive by 12 percent in Uttarakhand. From April 1, the new rates would be enforced. The notification is likely to be issued on 23 March. Around 27.5 lakh consumers may be affected by the new electricity rates. It is further learnt that this year, UPCL proposed 16.96 per cent increase, UJVNL by about 2.43 per cent and Pitkul by 9.27 per cent increase in electricity rates before the Regulatory Commission. Public hearings were held by the commission across the state on these proposals. New tariff rates would be announced on 23 March.
